Two Boys Delivered by Mothers with Moyamoya Disease
In the early medical paper on moyamoya disease in 70's, it was said that pregnancy for female patients with moyamoya disease was dangerous and should be avoided. However, this is not true. Many female patients with moyamoya disease get married and have babies.
In June and September this year, two boys were delivered by caesarian section in my hospital. It was reported that pregnancy of patients with moyamoya disease has a potential risk of hemorrhagic and/or ischemic events. But, pregnancy and delivery of these two mothers were uneventful.
Both mothers are in their twenties. One mother has no history of moyamoya symptoms, and had undergone bilateral EDASs. Another mother developed an ischemic episode early in her life, and had undergone bilateral STA-MCA anastomoses. Anesthesia for delivery was spinal, and hypotension and hypertension were carefully monitored and avoided during delivery.
