| The Century Orchestra Osaka was established in December 1989 under its first chief conductor, Uriel Segal, with the aim of providing the people of Osaka Prefecture an orchestra they could be proud of. The 55-member orchestra, twin wind-IO section formation, is highly skilled at playing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and other baroque and classical music, but has recently been performing more modern pieces too. Ken Takaseki was appointed chief conductor to replace Uriel Sega] in April 1997 and began taking steps towards establishing a new sound. Besides holding subscription and special concerts, the orchestra actively prornotes music appreciation classes aimed at refining the sensibilities of the younger generation, who will be tomorrow's leaders. Our aim is to provide not only classical music but music that stirs the soul of every person so that the general public will come to know the joy of listening to great music and attending wonderful concerts, We hope to provide more opportunity for all to come into close contact with music in their daily lives. We are dedicated to fulfilling our mission to become an orchestra that is loved and respected by not only classical music lovers but also all the people in every walk of life. |

[Contrabass section of Century Orchestra Osaka]
Kazuo
Okuda, Chiko Kobayashi, Ken-ichi Naito, Ken Sakakura
| We organized a contrabass quartet named "Okuda Kazuo Contrabass Quartet"
or "Hattori-forest Contrabass Quartet" (origin in our rehearsal room is
in Hattori green park) and we were playing many times . All of us are playing
orchestra' s instrument Okuda...TARANTINO
4-string, Kobayashi...GUADANINI 4-string,
Naito...BARDER 5-string, and Sakakura...SEITZ
5-string. But I usually use GIOVANNI
MARIA DEL BUSETTO 5-string that is borrowed from Mr.Ryuzo Ueno. Under
the influence of Naito who is an authority of ancient music, we love softly,
swell rich sound and clear tone of gut string. Okuda, Kobayashi and Sakakura
are using Pirastro Eudoxa(Silver winding gut). Naito is using Damian(plain
gut, for G and D) and Pirastro Eudoxa (for A, E and H). I think that our
tone is really rich and fine especially pizzicato because all of us are
using gut string.
